英語の「Many」（たくさん）の代替言い方を習いましょう

There are a ton of ways to say “many” in English. But… not all of them are cool. Some of them are old, others just never caught on. But don’t worry. Just come with me, and I’ll show you some of the coolest ways you can express this very useful idea when you’re chatting in English.

「たくさん」の言い方＃１「A lot of」

Native speakers use “a lot” a lot. It just flows off the tongue. It’s so much easier than saying “many,” for some reason. And for non-native speakers, it’s easier than using “many” or “much,” because you can use it with count nouns and non-count nouns. Plus, if you use it, you’ll sound a lot more like a native. Sweet!

This is probably used as much as “a lot.” They’re pretty much interchangeable.
これはたぶん「a lot」と同じ程度くらい使われている。だいたいどちでもいいです。

「たくさん」の言い方＃３「A ton (of)」

The original meaning of “a ton” is a unit of weight, like 2,000 pounds. But nowadays it also means “many” and “much,” too. It doesn’t have to be something heavy, you can use it whenever you have a lot of something.
「A ton」のもともとの意味は重量単位、２，０００ポンドぐらい。でも現在は「many」と「much」も意味する。重いものじゃなくていkないわけじゃない。いつでも何かいっぱいあるときに使えます。

Same as “a ton.” You get it.

The fact that most of these can be used in singular or plural form is hopefully starting to sink in. This one is the same.

Oops. Naughty word alert. Don’t use this word with people who are offended by “bad words.” I mean, unless you don’t care.
おっと！みだらな言葉に気分を害する人の前で使わないほうがいい。ちょっとも気にしない人の場合を除き。

This is a very powerful phrase. This is more than loads. When you want to express the idea of “many, many, many,” this is the word to use. Don’t use it too much or it will lose it’s power. This one can be used in the plural form too. Same meaning.
これはすごい力のあるフレーズです。これは「loads」よりもたくさん。「いっぱい、いっぱい、いっぱい」という考えを表したいときは、これが一番。でも使い過ぎたらその力を失うからしないでください。複数形も可能です。意味は同じ。

「たくさん」の言い方＃7「A (whole) bunch (of)」

Use “a bunch” for “many” and “a whole bunch” for “many, many.” “Bunches” is also used, but I don’t think it’s used as much as “a bunch.”
「Many」の代わりに「a bunch」、「many, many」の代わりに「a whole bunch」を使ってください。「Bunches」も使われるけど、「a bunch」のほど使われていないと思う。

「たくさん」の言い方＃８「Quite a few」

“Quite a few” is more reserved than the others. We use this phrase when there is more of something than we expected. Basically, “quite a few” is between “some” and “many.” But it really depends on the person talking. This phrase can’t be used to mean “much.”
「Quite a few」は以上の表現よりも控えめです。期待したよりも多いときに使います。基本的に「quite a few」は「some」（いくつか）と「many」の間にある。でも人によって違う。この表現「much」の意味で使えません。

“Hella” is the new kid on the block. It’s a slang word from northern California, but it has spread to a lot of the U.S. It’s a short form of “a hell of a lot of.” It can mean “many,” “very,” or “much.” This one is slang guys, so don’t be surprised if some people don’t understand you when you use it.
